STR-33336 Stradivarius 1993

Aldo Clementi (Catania 1925), a unique figure in Italian music life in the latter part of 20th century, is presented here with five works. The contemporary classic: Trio (1960) for flute, clarinet and oboe, together with four later masterpieces:

  • Berceuse (1979) for bass clarinet, viola, cello and prepared piano
  • Adagio (1983) for violin, viola, cello, double bass and prepared piano
  • Scherzo (1985) for flute, clarinet, violin and viola
  • Impromptu (1989) for clarinet and string quartet.

Riccarod Nova (1960) has spent much time in South-India and Indian Rhythms (and also lately by Tecno-music) inspire his music. The CAPUT-ensemble recorded four of his works:

  • Carved Out (1988) for flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet and string quartet
  • Sex Nova Organa (1989) for flutes, clarinets, violin, viola, cello and piano
  • Sequentia Super Sex Nova Organa (1992) for flutes, clarinets, bassoon, horn, violin, viola, cello and piano
  • Sequentia Super Beata Viscera (1992/93) for flute, oboe, clarinet, tenor saxophone, horn, piano and percussion

Both composers came to Iceland during the summer of 1993 to work with CAPUT on this project. Guðmundur Óli Gunnarsson conducted the music by Riccardo Nova. Guðni Franzson conducted Clementi’s Adagio and Andreas Graap-Behrendt conducted Berceuse. Recordings were made in Víðistaðakirkja, Hafnarfjörður. Recording engineer was Vigfús Ingvarsson and recording producer was Haukur Tómasson The music by Clementi and Nova is published by Suvini Zerboni in Milan.
