Around the mid 19th century the musical life gradually begins to change after age long stagnation.

Páll Ísólfsson (1893-1974)1930 - 1959
With the founding of Reykjavik College of Music in 1930 the musical life "takes of" so to speak. Among other events of interest that occurred this year were: The National Broadcasting Service began regular broadcasts, a national celebration took place at Thingvellir to commemorate the 1000 year anniversary of Althing and the first recordings of Icelandic instrumental music were done.
Gunnar Þórðarson f. 1945 1960 - 2000
1960 or there about marks a new phase with Musica Nova and Rock and roll.
