The idea is to gradually compile an index (a time–line in some sense) of events, facts and figures of interest with respect to Icelandic music history. All comments or questions are appreciated at <musik[at]musik.is>.

1056 - 1839[Sept. 5, 2015] References here are sketchy and often unreliable.

1840 - 1929 Around the mid 19th century the musical life gradually begins to change after age long stagnation.

1930 - 1959 With the founding of Reykjavik College of Music in 1930 the musical life "takes of" so to speak. Among other events of interest that occurred this year were: The National Broadcasting Service began regular broadcasts, a national celebration took place at Thingvellir to commemorate the 1000 year anniversary of Althing and the first recordings of Icelandic instrumental music were done.

1960 - 2000 1960 or there about marks a new phase with Musica Nova and Rock and roll.
